Who we are

What is Pharm-Ed?

Pharm-Ed platform is an initiative of the Geneva University Hospitals Pharmacy

The main goal of the project is to promote and improve the quality of the drug therapy and patient safety within health care institutions in resource-constrained settings by:

  • Ensuring free access to postgraduate training to strengthen the hospital pharmacy skills of the pharmaceutical professionals
  • Providing quality education on good pharmaceutical practice even in remote areas far from major urban centres
  • Encouraging the sharing of information and knowledge through workshops
  • Pursuing the goals for the future of hospital pharmacy defined by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP)
  • Following WHO medicines strategy

Why Pharm-Ed platform was created?

Besides its activity of managing and securing medicinal processes within the HUG, the HUG pharmacy has been involved for more than 10 years in the pre- and post-graduate education of pharmacists in Switzerland and abroad, as well as in numerous research and development activities.

Since 2005, a partnership has been established between the Geneva University Hospitals Pharmacy and the Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy and Odontostomatology (FMPOS) of the University of Bamako, with the aim of developing hospital pharmacy in Mali. A pre-graduate introductory education programme in hospital pharmacy has been set up and research work, particularly in the field of hand hygiene, has been carried out. Other French-speaking countries have shown an interest in developing a similar partnership, which has led to the choice of an online educational platform, in order to enable as many people as possible to benefit from training resources in the field of hospital pharmacy.

Who are our Focal Points?

The Pharm-Ed focal point is a local pharmacist that links the project with the local pharmaceutical community .

His/her main role is to participate in the promotion and development of the Pharm-Ed project with the aim of strengthening national hospital pharmaceutical services.
